About Our Opportunity
As a Loan Officer with the Department of Agriculture, you will work as part of a dynamic team of professionals to respond to lending needs and build the Nova Scotia fisheries, aquaculture, agriculture and forestry industries.
Primary Accountabilities
Within the day to day tasks of this role, you will be responsible for:
- Providing financial and management counseling to clients/applicants;
- Evaluating business proposals in all sectors of the industry;
- Applying accepted appraisal methods in determining the security base of the Nova Scotia Agriculture & Fisheries Crown Lending Agencies loans;
- Providing management and the Board with written and verbal assessments and recommendations of each Agriculture & Fisheries Crown Lending Agencies business program for which funds are requested;
- General administration of the Board’s loan and lease accounts;
- Liaising with the business community and the general public for effective implementation of the Agriculture & Fisheries Crown Lending Agencies’ credit programs.
Qualifications and Experience
You have a Bachelor 's Degree plus one (1) years of related experience in finance or an acceptable equivalent. A major in agricultural economics, business or finance, or an AACI designation or course work leading to the accredited appraiser designation would be definite assets.
As the successful candidate, you will have strong interpersonal, time management and written and verbal communication skills. You excel at financial analysis and have an understanding of and the ability to work closely with all sectors of Nova Scotia’s agricultural industry as well as a good working knowledge of the more common computer programs including Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
Knowledge of real estate law and real property appraisal is an asset.

Pay Grade: PR 06 - PR 10
Salary Range: $1,924.95 - $2,760.42 Bi-Weekly
