About Our Opportunity


As a summer student with the Department of Agriculture, you will gain valuable experience by working with staff responsible for the Agriculture in the Classroom Program for Nova Scotia.  Your work will include the development, coordination and packaging of educational products and programming. You will also work with the senior diversity programming specialist to support program development and delivery.

Primary Accountabilities


You will assist is a wide range of duties including:

 

  • The development, coordination and delivery of classroom resources for the Agriculture in the Classroom – Nova Scotia program. Repetitive tasks (collating resources, packing, and inventory) are a component of project work.
  • Coordination, development and delivery of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility projects
  • Supporting the organization of conferences and events 
  • Participate in and collaborate with various staff on projects which will further enhance and develop your skills.

Qualifications and Experience

 

As a successful candidate, you must be currently enrolled in a full-time program at a Canadian university and demonstrate an interest in agriculture.

 

In addition to the above, the following will be key in your success within this role: 

  • Some knowledge and understanding of Nova Scotia agriculture and agricultural science 
  • Have experience in data analysis and problem solving
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Must demonstrate the use of sound judgement, be task oriented and self-motivated with good time management skills
  • You will be familiar with using a personal computer with standard office software for applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and E-mail.  
  • Have a valid driver licence

 

Enrollment in an agricultural program will be considered an asset.

  

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade:  HOURLY 

Salary Range:  $15.73 - $29.69 Hourly
