About Our Opportunity

 

If you are a Human Resources Professional looking to develop your generalist skills and have an impact on the future of the Province of Nova Scotia this is the opportunity for you!

 

In this entry level position, you will provide advice and assistance on a broad range of human resources programs and services; create and analyze reports; advise clients on policies and procedures; terms and conditions of employment; provisions of the collective agreement; and consult with senior HR Business Partners to determine best business practices when dealing with HR related issues.

Primary Accountabilities

 

You will provide input into the development of human resources strategies and services to meet our client’s needs by participating in working groups and committees.  In addition, you will assist clients in navigating available services, identifying issues, and determining appropriate courses of action.  As well, you will gather information and provide basic review and analysis.

 

To assist in your development, you will be provided guidance and leadership from an experienced HR Business Partner and the Client Service Director.

Qualifications and Experience

 

To be successful you will have a post-secondary education in Human Resources. Being familiar with provisions of the collective agreement is considered an asset.

 

Your willingness to work under the guidance of others to learn and develop in all areas of human resources will be an important factor, as will your client-service focused approach and experience and/or training in creating reports and analyzing data. Your strong computer skills, including telecommunication, software and business applications will also be important in this role.

 

Experience and / or training in electronic human resources information systems (i.e. SAP) will be an asset.

 

Leadership competencies required at this level of work are: Analytical Thinking, Adaptability and Flexibility, Attention to Detail, Outcome Focus, Effective Interactive Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

 

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

 

Equivalent experience and training includes, but is not limited to:

 

  • A minimum of four (4) years' combination of education and related experience.

 

Related experience may include providing advice and assistance on a broad range of human resources programs and services (such as relevant employment and human rights legislation or terms and conditions of employment) and working in a unionized environment.

Working Conditions

 

  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day
  • May be required to work overtime on occasion
  • Majority of time is spent in an office setting in Halifax, with flexible working from home arrangements

Additional Information

 

This competition will be used to create a Hiring Pool to fill multiple Permanent, Term, Temporary and Casual opportunities as they arise.   

 

Currently, there is one TERM employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of January 1, 2027.  The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade:  EC 07 

Salary Range:  $2,335.21 - $2,919.02 Bi-Weekly
