About Us

The Nova Scotia Department of Energy is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to join our Clean Buildings, Communities, and Infrastructure team.

 

As the Clean Energy Project Lead, you will be responsible for advanced program administrative and management work that supports development and delivery of clean energy projects by communities across Nova Scotia.  This includes energy efficiency, electrification, and transportation initiatives in all stages of development and implementation.

 

Supporting the Province’s efforts to improve energy affordability, create jobs, and grow the clean economy of Nova Scotia, you will work collaboratively with internal and external contacts to assist with scoping, technical, financial, monitoring, and other aspects of projects that are delivered by communities. The Project Lead will assist with the deployment and evaluation of existing initiatives as well as planning for future policies and programs.

The Project Lead will assist with the deployment and evaluation of existing initiatives as well as planning for future policies and programs.

Primary Accountabilities

Some of the primary accountabilities of this role include:

 

  • Reporting to the Manager, Clean Energy Infrastructure, the Project Lead is accountable for administering clean energy grant programs in accordance with provincial and federal programmatic requirements.
  • The Project Lead strengthens clean energy programming through analysis, advice, policy recommendations, process creation, development of reporting tools, evaluation, change management, and more.
  • The Project Lead manages day-to-day relationships with government and community representatives including municipalities, Indigenous communities, academic institutions, non profit and private sector organizations with the intention of supporting successful project and program development and implementation.
  • The Project Lead provides focused support for projects that are delivered by communities, utilizing strong skills in stakeholder relations, critical analysis, technical reviews, research, problem solving, and communications.
  • With guidance from senior colleagues, the Project Lead proactively monitors and reports on project and program activities, requiring ongoing internal and external communications.
  • The Project Lead may assist with management of direct and indirect program resources.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this opportunity, you will have a Bachelor's degree in a related field (such as science, engineering, community development, or business and administration) plus six years of related experience, or Master’s degree in a related field plus four years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

 

As the successful candidate, you demonstrate strong knowledge of the provincial energy policy context and the Province’s clean energy and climate change mitigation strategies and funding programs. A background in the clean energy sector – low carbon buildings, electricity, and/or transportation systems - and experience in program and project design, implementation and evaluation is required.

 

You have experience in community engagement and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, and have excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills. You exercise sound judgement, work well both independently and as part of a team, and engage effectively with senior decision makers.

 

You are detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and simultaneously manage multiple initiatives under tight timelines. You demonstrate problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical solutions to address complex issues.

 

We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Additional Information

This is a 2-year, full-time term position based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a projected end date of March 31, 2028.

Pay Grade:  PR 17  

Salary Range:  $3,343.61 - $3,927.04 Bi-Weekly
