As the Chief Executive Officer of the Province of Nova Scotia, the Lieutenant Governor carries out a variety of constitutional and ceremonial/community functions which the Office of the Lieutenant Governor facilitates. Government House is the ceremonial home of all Nova Scotians and is the location of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. As the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor, Government House hosts more than 160 events per year, welcomes more than 14,000 visitors per year and serves as the residence for members of the Royal Family and the Governor General during visits to Nova Scotia. 

 

About Our Opportunity

 

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor (Government House) invites applications from qualified candidates for a position responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of official events, ceremonies, visits, and public programming. Reporting to the Private Secretary/Executive Director, the successful candidate will contribute to the effective operation of Government House by delivering events with professionalism, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to established protocols.

The incumbent will coordinate a broad range of state and public events, including music and entertainment programming, photography, and audio-visual services and setup.   Responsibilities include the detailed planning and execution of ceremonies, Royal Tours, visits by Heads of State, diplomatic courtesy calls, and provincial and national conferences, in accordance with protocol requirements and approved budgets.


Serving as a key point of contact, the incumbent will liaise with, official visitors, volunteers, community organizations, lecturers, Aides-de-Camp, Government House staff, and event participants. Responsibilities will include coordinating official visitor lists, receiving and assisting dignitaries, providing protocol guidance to guests and participants, arranging volunteer participation for annual events such as the New Year’s Levee and Garden Party, through the coordination of participants and maintenance of attendance records. The incumbent will also be responsible for the “talk and tour” program.

The position also supports the efficient administration and delivery of the Lieutenant Governor’s events at Government House and certain events held in communities throughout the province. This work is carried out in close collaboration with the Communications Advisor Executive Chef, Executive Housekeeper, Chief Aide-de-Camp, and other members of the Household Staff. Additional responsibilities include assisting with event logistics, flag protocol and arrangement, AV requirement setup, room setup and catering requirements, maintaining monthly activity records, and ensuring adequate supplies are available.

Qualifications and Experience

 

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism
  • demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities within a formal, public-facing environment.
  • Experience in event coordination, protocol, working with senior officials or dignitaries, applying protocol procedures, and liaising effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders would be considered valuable assets.

In addition to the primary duties of the position, the successful candidate may be required to act in the place of the Executive Assistant during periods of leave or absence and will perform other related duties as assigned by the Private Secretary/Executive Director.

Working Conditions

 

Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

May be required to work overtime on occasion.

Pay Grade:  EC 05 

Salary Range:  $2,068.01 - $2,585.02 Bi-Weekly
