About Our Opportunity

 

The Project Manager will work as part of a team within the Policing Strategies and Governance Unit of the Public Safety and Security Division. As the Project Manager, you are responsible for managing the design, and implementation of significant projects across the Department of Justice. Under the direction of the Manager, Policing Strategy and Governance, the Project Manager defines and manages projects that assist the Department of Justice in delivering its vision, mission, and mandate.

The Project Manager is responsible for delivering projects within scope, timelines, and budget, with ongoing monitoring and reporting. The Project Manager works with key partners to develop and deliver projects and initiatives which involve significant change management and communications, with guidance from senior colleagues.

The Project Manager will lead a small team working on policing programs and initiatives, and may supervise additional part-time staff such as student placements.

You will provide direction and/or development of projects and associated plans. Activities may include scope development, business and policy analysis, change management and communications, and resource management.

Primary Accountabilities

 

  • Provides recommendations to Divisional and Departmental Senior Leadership for the development of successful projects.
  • Manages the completion of work products, allocating and utilizing resources in an efficient manner and maintaining a collaborative, motivated and successful approach.
  • Focuses on the oversight and management of simultaneous projects. 
  • Assesses programs and policies and develops specific projects to enhance public safety.
  • Prepares written material, including briefing notes, submissions to Executive Council Office, correspondence, discussion papers, and proposals.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and responds to emergent issues on behalf of the Division in a manner that is consistent with Divisional and Departmental practices.

Qualifications and Experience

 

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and several years of related experience in project management and/or program administration. A combination of education and experience will also be considered.

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of factors that influence public safety issues, an ability to assess complex information, and provide objective findings and recommendations related to new and existing programs.

The ideal candidate will have an ability to problem-solve while making decisions in consultation with senior leaders. Sound judgement and application of common sense, the proven ability to offer innovative solutions to sensitive problems, is required. Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills are essential. An understanding of budgeting is essential to the successful delivery of this work.

You will leverage your strong collaboration and relationship building skills to work effectively with internal and external justice stakeholders and other project managers, as well as with management, supervisory, and technical staff. You are also result-oriented, capable of prioritizing and delegating high volumes of work under tight timelines. In addition, you exercise sound judgement in a continuously evolving and dynamic work environment.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in managing multiple projects and deadlines, administration experience with legislation and policies, and excellent verbal and written skills, and attention to detail in terms of reading and disseminating information.

You have a demonstrated ability to provide guidance, training, and support to others on planning, organizing, prioritizing, and overseeing activities to efficiently meet business objectives. You also have strong problem solving, analytical skills and the ability to see the big picture.

Competencies required at this level of work are: Analytical Thinking, Action Management, Team Leadership, Initiative, Effective Interactive Communication, Partnering and Relationship Building, Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

 

Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting and may involve sitting for long periods of time.

Travel throughout the province may be required. Your normal work week is 35 hours/week.

Pay Grade:  EC 11 

Salary Range:  $3,571.99 - $4,465.03 Bi-Weekly   

Note: The salary rates shown are effective April 1, 2026. Should you start in this position before April 1, 2026, your salary will be based on the current rates until April 1.

 

The salary rates include an economic adjustment that has been approved.  These rates are effective April 1, 2025.  Implementation in our HR system will occur on March 5, 2026.  Until then, the current rates will apply.  Employees hired during this period will receive retroactive pay adjustments in accordance with the applicable policies.
