About Our Opportunity
SAP Services and Modernization is seeking an experienced SAP Technical Architect to provide technical leadership across the support, modernization, integration, and governance of our SAP landscape.
In this role, you will set architectural direction across SAP modernization, cybersecurity, integration, and governance. You will work at the intersection of technology, risk, privacy, and service delivery, ensuring SAP platforms are secure, reliable, scalable, and fit for public service.
This is a senior, hands-on architecture role. You will partner closely with technical and business teams, guide complex decisions in a highly regulated environment, and provide clear leadership while working collaboratively across teams. Collaboration, clarity, and trust are essential to success here.
The SAP landscape underpins critical public services across Nova Scotia. In this role, your architectural decisions directly influence security, privacy, system reliability, and how effectively government programs serve people.

Primary Accountabilities
Setting Direction and Guardrails
- Develop and maintain the SAP architecture roadmap aligned with enterprise cybersecurity strategy, corporate standards, and regulatory obligations across SAP applications including S/4HANA, SAP ECC, SAP Governance, Risk & Compliance, Business Technology Platform, Ariba, SuccessFactors, Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud, and integration platforms.
- Define SAP-specific security controls, design patterns, and guardrails for cloud and on-premise environments, including RISE with SAP and SAP BTP.
- Ensure SAP architecture and system changes comply with corporate security, privacy, and regulatory standards.
Security, Privacy, and Risk Leadership
- Lead and coordinate Threat Risk Assessments, vulnerability assessments, and security risk mitigation planning for SAP projects and services.
- Lead and contribute to Privacy Impact Assessments, data flow analysis, data residency reviews, and compliance validation for SAP initiatives.
- Ensure platforms meet requirements related to data retention, information lifecycle management, sensitive personal information, and cross-border data transfer.
- Monitor and respond to cybersecurity threats in collaboration with internal teams.
Audit, Compliance, and Assurance
- Coordinate responses to internal and external audits, including third-party security assessments, SOC and SOC2 reviews, compliance attestations, and cybersecurity audits.
- Partner with auditors by providing architecture documentation, evidence packages, walkthroughs, and remediation plans.

Integration and Solution Enablement
- Lead planning and execution of integrations across SAP, enterprise systems, and third-party applications.
- Ensure interoperability, data consistency, and performance optimization across platforms.
- Provide architectural guidance on solution design, scalability, and alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
- Collaborate with internal delivery teams and third-party vendors on solution delivery, incident response, and service optimization.
Platform Leadership
- Oversee SAP toolsets, user provisioning, licensing strategies, and license consumption.
- Support roadmap planning for upgrades and feature-set releases.
- Enforce alignment with organizational design principles and compliance requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
You meet one of the following:
A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, plus five years of related experience; or
Graduation from a recognized Information Technology program, plus five years and six months of related experience; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Related experience includes five or more years working in areas such as enterprise architecture, SAP solution design, systems integration, or senior technical leadership roles within complex, regulated environments.
Technical and Professional Experience
- Experience providing architectural or technical leadership for enterprise platforms in hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.
- Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns, system interoperability, and data flow design.
- Experience working closely with cybersecurity, privacy, and audit functions, including participation in threat risk assessments, privacy impact assessments, and compliance activities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or influence multi-disciplinary teams and guide complex technical decisions.
- Experience working with vendors and third parties, including issue resolution and service optimization.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience managing application licensing, including user access, cloud consumption tracking, and license administration.
Assets
Experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset:
- SAP S/4HANA
- SAP Business Technology Platform
- SAP Basis and Security
We will assess the above qualifications and experience using tools such as assessments, presentations, interviews, reference checks, etc.
Equivalency
For candidates without post-secondary education, equivalency would typically require an additional four years of related experience in place of a university degree.

Pay Grade: PR 17
Salary Range: $3,343.61 - $3,927.04 Bi-Weekly
Note: The salary rates shown reflect the new Civil Service Agreement, effective April 1, 2025. Implementation in our HR system will occur on February 5, 2026. Until then, the current rates will apply. Employees hired during this period will receive retroactive pay adjustments in accordance with the new agreement and applicable policies.
