About Our Opportunity

 

The Registries division requires students for the summer of 2025. Working within either Vital Statistics or Registry of Joint Stocks, the student will gain practical experience and knowledge of working in a provincial government environment.

Primary Accountabilities

 

Under supervision of the Manager(s), as the summer student your responsibilities may include:

 

· Collect and verify information from internal and external clients to process requests.

· Provide direction, information and assistance to the key stakeholders, internal clients and other partners in response to complex incoming inquiries requiring explanation and interpretation of policies and legislative requirements.

· Optimize client service while handling requests of a sensitive nature with tact and having respect for confidentiality of information.

· Register vital events such as births, deaths, marriages, and still births.

· Issue of certificates.

· You may be responsible for highly secure inventories.

· You may also be required to perform scanning or other duties as required.

· Use scanning equipment to digitize paper documents.

· Rename digital records according to an approved file naming convention.

· Accurately enter data on records into the department’s records management system.

· Search and retrieve files for departmental staff on request.

· Organize historical government records in preparation for transfer to the provincial archives.

· Complete other inventory or process improvement tasks as required.

· Check work to ensure it’s complete and accurate to minimize errors and duplication of work.

Qualifications and Experience

 

To be considered for this Summer Student opportunity, you are currently a full-time University or Community College student, available to work during the summer, and entering or returning to study in September 2025. Being enrolled either in a Business Administration, Social Sciences, Records management, Archival or Library program would be an asset. 

 

Candidates should possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, display strong organizational and analytical skills, and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and database programs is required. Knowledge of online meeting platforms such as MS Teams is also an asset.

 

Proof of educational enrollment may be required.

Working Conditions

 

Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

You must be able to lift boxes of documents weighing up to 40 lbs

Pay Grade:  HOURLY 

Salary Range:  $18.22 - $29.69 Hourly
