About Our Opportunity


The Computer Services Officer 1-2 (Technical Analyst) will provide customer-focused Tier 1 and 2 technical support services related to MSSQL, Oracle, and MySQL database infrastructure. This role involves deploying, maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting, ensuring availability and security of corporate database assets, and resolving database incidents and problems for the Province of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Health Authority, and the IWK.

As a technical analyst within a team of specialists, this position plays a key role in supporting the core ITIL service support processes to ensure providing consistent level of services to the users.

Primary Accountabilities


Under the direction of the senior technical architect (database), your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide Tier 1 and some Tier 2 support by troubleshooting, deploying, maintaining, and monitoring MSSQL, Oracle, and MySQL database infrastructure.
  • Provide support to mission critical database environments.
  • Resolve database incidents and problems in a timely manner.
  • Perform database backup and recovery operations and implement robust backup and recovery procedures.
  • Manage users, security, tables, indexes, and views within the database systems.
  • Monitor server and database health, taking preventive or corrective action as required.
  • Support the core ITIL standard and processes to ensure consistent levels of service to users.
  • Collaborate with other operational teams (server, virtualization, storage, etc.) to ensure seamless integration and operation of database systems.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Graduation from a recognized Information Technology program
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with clients, staff, peers, and management.
  • Well-organized and capable of prioritizing and undertaking high-level work under tight deadlines.
  • Flexible and adaptable to ever-changing priorities while demonstrating initiative.


Assets:

  • Experience supporting enterprise environments with Microsoft SQL (MSSQL) Server, Oracle, or MySQL database implementations
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MariaDB, and any relational database management system would be considered as an asset.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or other cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge or experience in scripting languages (Shell, Python, PowerShell) and infrastructure automation tools.
  • Experience in the public sectors or other complex, regulated environments.

Pay Grade:  PR 01 - PR 11  

Salary Range:  $1,587.24 - $2,867.11 Bi-Weekly
