About Our Opportunity

The Shubenacadie Wildlife Park is seeking Wildlife Park Attendants with a strong visitor experience focus. As a key member of our team, you will help create a welcoming, safe, and educational experience for visitors while supporting the day-to-day operations of the park.

Primary Accountabilities

 

  • Welcoming visitors and providing exceptional customer service
  • Processing admissions and retail transactions
  • Providing information about wildlife, exhibits, programs, trails, and local attractions
  • Responding to visitor inquiries and resolving customer concerns
  • Supporting special events, education programs, and visitor engagement activities
  • Maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces (should be specific about cleaning public washrooms.)

 

Secondary responsibilities may include:

 

  • Conducting routine observations of animals and reporting concerns to Animal Care staff
  • Monitoring wildlife exhibits and assisting with public safety around animal enclosures
  • Performing inspections of trails, boardwalks, fences, signage, and visitor infrastructure
  • Light maintenance and housekeeping of the Wildlife Station and public-use facilities
  • Assisting Animal Care and Maintenance teams with operational requirements as needed
  • Supporting emergency response and severe weather preparations when required

 

As a Wildlife Park Attendant, you will work closely with the Visitor Experience, Animal Care and Maintenance teams to deliver a positive experience for both visitors and wildlife.

Qualifications and Experience

 

To be considered for this opportunity, you've completed high school or have an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

To be successful in this role, you should possess, confirm in your cover letter, and be prepared to demonstrate:

 

  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Experience handling cash and processing financial transactions
  • Experience operating point-of-sale systems and basic computer software
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Interest in wildlife, conservation, environmental education, or outdoor recreation
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to perform light physical labour including walking, lifting, cleaning, and trail inspections
  • Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent

 

The following will be considered assets:

 

  • Visitor services, tourism, retail, hospitality, admissions, or recreation experience
  • Experience working in parks, zoos, museums, aquariums, nature centres, or similar attractions
  • Knowledge of Nova Scotia wildlife and conservation issues
  • Experience conducting facility inspections or maintenance activities
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and WHMIS requirements

Equivalency

Working Conditions

 

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Shifts may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and special events.
  • Frequent interaction with visitors during periods of high attendance.
  • Significant walking throughout the park and trail systems is required.
  • Routine inspections of trails, exhibits, and visitor facilities are required.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to changing operational priorities is essential.
  • Staff may be required to support emergency operations, weather events, or visitor incidents. 

Additional Information

 

This is a Wildlife Park Attendant position with a primary focus on visitor services and park operations. Successful candidates will receive training related to visitor services, wildlife observation and reporting, public safety, and facility inspections.

 

This competition is being leveraged to fill 2 casual hourly vacancies.

Pay Grade:  MOS 08 

Salary Range:  $26.44 - $27.09 Hourly
