About Our Opportunity

 

Our opportunity with the Museum of Industry is a perfect fit for someone who is seeking hands-on experience with museum collections. Our collection showcases Nova Scotia’s industrial history.

Over a 32-week term the employee will enter artifact and library records, examine and catalog artifacts and library research materials, occasionally completing research and consultation to identify and better understand the artifacts and materials. Hands-on training will be provided in cataloguing and data entry.

The successful candidate will be a recent graduate in a relevant field such as museum studies, history (preferably Canadian), library studies, material history or a related field. Experience working with artifact or library collections and/or working within a museum or heritage institution setting is an asset. Computer skills are necessary; museum/library database experience is preferred. Demonstrated communication and organizational skills are required. The ability to take direction and work on task is necessary. Fluency in English is required.

Some of our events may take place during the evening and weekends. The candidate must be flexible when it comes to their schedule. Hours will total 70 hours bi-weekly. Weekend shifts may be required, and this position may include work on statutory holidays, as events or museum programs dictate.

The Museum of Industry is a part of the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. Recruitment and selection are carried out with the Public Service Commission. Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must pass appropriate background checks (criminal record and child abuse registry).

An individual may be eligible for an internship if they:

  • are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);
  • are legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
  • are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and
  • are a college or university graduate (certificate, bachelor's, master's or doctorate) within the last year

 

     

Pay Grade:  HOURLY 

Salary Range:  $20.00Hourly
